I'm Alison, and I've been running Pepperberry Crochet for about six years now. I live in Salem, MA, which is a wonderful little town on the north shore of Massachusetts, best known for witches.
I learned how to crochet when I was four, which was also the only time in my life when I could correctly work the ripple afghan stitch. I picked it back up again when I was sixteen, and have been churning out weird crocheted stuff ever since.
I got started making amigurumi, oddly enough, after reading "The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd. There was a character in the book who enjoyed making crocheted octopi. I thought it was a cool idea, so I made one. As it so happened, I was going to a little charity craft fair in a couple of weeks to sell scarves and Christmas Ornaments. I decided to bring a few of the octopi along, and people loved them. Thus was Pepperberry Crochet born. ;) I make fewer octopi now than I used to, but if you run into me at a craft fair you can be guaranteed to see a whole bunch of them.
As the years have gone on, and I've become interested in tackling more and more ambitious crochet projects, I've been doing more design work so that I have time for my personal pieces. I'm a regular designer for Crochet Today Magazine, I sell patterns in my etsy shop, and I offer seasonal free patterns here. I also have the same patterns available on ravelry, where I'm pepperberry and love new friends.
